The former Edo State governor said both Atiku and Obi, who are now members of the opposition coalition in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have a consistent record of electoral defeats, both as a pair and as individual candidates.“Did Atiku not run with Obi before and contested against the APC? Were they not defeated?” Oshiomhole asked. “Throw any number you want to throw. The point is that when these two ran together, they were uroundly defeated by the APC.”
According to him, the outcome of previous elections was a clear indication that the political alliance between Atiku and Obi, or any future collaboration, will not change their fortunes.
“They have a history of being defeated together and they have a history of being defeated apart. So, if they come back together, they will still be defeated,” Oshiomhole added.
Recall that Atiku was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023 election, while Obi flew the flag of the Labour Party (LP) at the election. Both men polled a combined total of over 12 million votes, finishing second and third, respectively, behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their renewed collaboration under the ADC has sparked speculation of a possible joint ticket in 2027, a move Oshiomhole believed would still end in another loss to the ruling APC.
