Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has advised the Kano State government to release Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara and to stop the arrest of clerics in the state. Sheikh Gumi said the government should establish a framework to allow everyone the freedom to preach with wisdom and tranquility, in order to avoid conflicts and prevent religious extremism.
Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara has spent about four years in prison since the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, after being tried in court over allegations of blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Sheikh Gumi emphasized that ending the restriction of religious scholars will help foster peace and mutual understanding in Kano and Nigeria as a whole.
