Thousands of people have fled Yemen for Djibouti as renewed fighting in Yemen has forced civilians to seek safety across the Gulf of Aden.
The escalation has raised fears of a worsening humanitarian crisis, with families leaving their homes to escape violence and insecurity. Many of those arriving in Djibouti are expected to need food, water, shelter and medical assistance.
Djibouti has long served as an important destination for people fleeing conflict in Yemen because of its location across the Gulf of Aden. The new arrivals are putting additional pressure on humanitarian organisations and local resources.
Aid agencies are calling for greater international support to assist displaced people and refugees, while urging all sides in Yemen's conflict to protect civilians and allow humanitarian assistance to reach those in need.
The renewed fighting also threatens to further destabilise the region and could lead to more people fleeing Yemen if the violence continues.
