Moroccan Parties Mobilise in Markets and Online for Parliamentary Elections

Political parties in Morocco are intensifying their campaigns ahead of the September 23 parliamentary election, using both traditional face-to-face campaigning and digital platforms to reach voters. Twenty-seven parties are competing for seats in the House of Representatives, according to official election information.

Campaign teams have been visiting markets, neighbourhoods and other busy public places, distributing leaflets and speaking directly with voters about their concerns. Parties are focusing on issues including the cost of living, employment, public services and economic opportunities.

At the same time, Facebook, TikTok and Instagram have become important parts of the campaign. Moroccan parties are using social media to present candidates and programmes, communicate with younger voters and encourage people to participate in the election. Morocco's official election information portal also identifies social media as an increasingly important tool for electoral communication and mobilisation.

The campaign is scheduled to continue until midnight on September 22, with voting taking place the following day. The election will determine the members of the House of Representatives and contribute to the formation of Morocco's next government.

Youth unemployment and political disengagement remain significant issues during the campaign. Recent reporting has highlighted concerns among young Moroccans about jobs, education, healthcare and opportunities, while parties are trying to use both direct engagement and online platforms to address those concerns.
