Massive wildfires in and around Spokane, Washington, have destroyed about 600 structures and forced more than 60,000 people to evacuate as firefighters continue battling fast-moving flames.
Officials said the fires spread rapidly because of hot, dry weather, strong winds and dry vegetation, making it difficult for emergency crews to contain the blaze. Homes, businesses and other buildings have been damaged or destroyed, while thousands of residents have been displaced.

Firefighters, supported by aircraft and emergency personnel from multiple agencies, are working to contain the fires and protect communities. Authorities warned that changing weather conditions could cause the fires to spread further.
