The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a soldier named Private Mohammed Yusuf, who was declared wanted on suspicion of selling military equipment to terrorists and other criminals.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Operation HADIN KAI force, it said the soldier was arrested at the Jidari motor park in Maiduguri while allegedly attempting to cross into the Republic of Cameroon.
The force's spokesperson for the North-East, Captain Muhammed Goni, said preliminary investigations showed that Yusuf fled his base since July 7, 2026, and hid in the Gomari Costain area of Jere Local Government Area.
He said soldiers arrested him after obtaining credible intelligence, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain his full role and whether there are others who conspired with him.
The force emphasized that it will continue to punish any of its personnel involved in activities that threaten security, while calling on the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
