The United States has urged the United Nations Security Council to support its new proposal for a ceasefire and humanitarian relief plan in Gaza, amid rising tensions and worsening conditions in the enclave.
The American-backed draft resolution reportedly calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of all hostages held by Hamas, and expanded humanitarian access to civilians in Gaza. Washington says the plan aims to balance Israel’s security concerns with the urgent need to protect Palestinian lives.
However, Russia has submitted a counter text, arguing that the US proposal does not go far enough to ensure lasting peace and fails to condemn Israel’s military actions. Moscow’s draft reportedly calls for an “unconditional and permanent ceasefire” and criticizes the humanitarian blockade imposed on Gaza.
Diplomats say both drafts are being discussed intensively, with several Council members divided over key points. A vote on the resolutions is expected in the coming days, as global pressure mounts for the UN to take stronger action to end the conflict.
