The United States military has announced that its forces struck two boats in the Pacific Ocean allegedly carrying narcotics, resulting in the deaths of six people on board.
According to a statement released by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation took place during a maritime patrol mission, aimed at disrupting illegal drug trafficking routes in the region.
The report said the boats were spotted engaging in suspicious activity, prompting US forces to take action. After the strike, six individuals were confirmed dead, while a small quantity of drugs and equipment were recovered from the scene.
CENTCOM emphasized that the strike was part of its broader campaign against transnational crime, and claimed that it was carried out in accordance with international law.
However, human rights groups have called for an independent investigation, warning that lethal force at sea should only be used as a last resort and must comply with humanitarian standards.
The identities and nationalities of those killed have not yet been disclosed.
