The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has stated that there is no evidence to suggest that followers of any religion, whether Christian or Muslim, have been subjected to genocide in Nigeria.
The Sultan made this statement during the opening of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council meeting in Kebbi City, 2025.
The Sultan said, "There is no way someone can be killed, whether a Muslim or a Christian, without the knowledge of the traditional rulers or community leaders from where that person comes from."
He also challenged anyone, at home or abroad, to provide genuine proof of any genocide in Nigeria.
Sultan Sa'ad warned people not to believe everything they see or read on social media, stating that most of the information being spread is not true.
"Most of what is published on social media is not true. People must verify the authenticity of information before accepting it as truth," he said.
The Sultan urged the Federal Government to expedite the enactment of laws that would regulate the activities of social media users to reduce the spread of misinformation.
