In India, several young Muslims have been arrested and charged after expressing the phrase “I love Muhammad” both online and during religious gatherings. The move has sparked widespread outrage among Muslim communities and human rights groups across the country.
According to reports, security officials detained the youths, accusing them of making statements that could “provoke unrest” or “create division” among citizens. However, India’s Muslim community has strongly condemned the action, saying the government is targeting Muslims simply for expressing their faith.
A religious scholar from Uttar Pradesh stated: “It is not a crime to express love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This government’s move clearly shows the ongoing suppression of Muslims in India.”
Human rights organizations have warned that such arrests are increasing fear among Muslims, who feel they are being silenced and stripped of their right to openly express their religious beliefs.
Since the rise of the Hindu nationalist BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there have been numerous reports of religious discrimination and violence against Muslims across various parts of India.
Muslim leaders are now calling on the international community to intervene and ensure justice and protection for all those arrested simply for expressing love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
