EU to Ban Russian Energy Imports by 2028

The European Union (EU) has announced plans to completely ban the import of energy from Russia by 2028.

This move is part of the bloc’s effort to reduce its dependence on Russian energy, especially following the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

According to EU officials, the new policy will cover oil, natural gas, and coal, which will be replaced with cleaner energy sources such as solar and wind power.

An EU senior official said: “This decision will help strengthen Europe’s energy security and reduce Russia’s economic influence in the region.”

Since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022, several European countries have reduced their purchase of Russian energy.

However, some nations still rely heavily on Russian gas.

The 2028 plan aims to end this dependence entirely, marking a major step toward energy independence and sustainability across Europe.
