As part of the programs for the 2025 World Hausa Writers’ Day, which will be held in Dutse, Jigawa State, from December 31, 2025, to January 1, 2026, a short story writing competition in Hausa has been organized on the theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and security. This aligns with this year’s main theme: Writers in the 21st Century: Security and Economic Challenges.
The competition is open to all interested participants - established male
and female writers, upcoming writers, as well as beginners - provided they
abide by the rules.
THEME OF THE COMPETITION
The Contribution of AI Technology to Security and the Economy
OBJECTIVES OF THE COMPETITION
1. To encourage writers to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays
an important role in ensuring security and promoting economic growth.
2. To generate innovative ideas and modern solutions that can help society
face security and economic challenges.
3. To create a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas on the
usefulness of modern technology in national development.
4. To give writers an opportunity to showcase their creativity,
intelligence, and skills in writing, research, or innovation.
5. To connect writers with technology users to foster collaboration in
addressing security and economic challenges.
6. To expand the availability of high-quality, purposeful reading materials
in the Hausa language.
COMPETITION ENTRY GUIDELINES
1. Participants must submit a short story manuscript containing no fewer
than 500 words and no more than 999 words to this email address:
ranarmarubutanhausa2025@gmail.com, between 21/09/2025 and 21/10/2025.
2. Twenty (20) of the most outstanding entries will be shortlisted within
ten days (21/10/2025 to 31/10/2025).
3. These 20 writers will then receive a special workshop on AI technology,
security, the economy, and short story writing (especially targeting new
writers).
4. After the workshop, each participant will be required to submit a
complete story containing no fewer than 1,000 words and no more than 1,500
words between 15/11/2025 and 15/12/2025.
5. The winning stories will be announced during the 2025 World Hausa
Writers’ Day celebration.
RULES OF THE COMPETITION
1. The story must be relevant to AI technology, particularly in relation to
security and the economy.
2. The story must be written in correct standard Hausa, following proper
Hausa orthography, including the use of hooked letters (ɓ, ɗ, ƙ, ’y).
3. The story must be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format to
ranarmarubutanhausa2025@gmail.com.
4. The story must not have been entered in any previous competition, nor
published in newspapers, magazines, online platforms, or social media forums.
5. A maximum of two writers may jointly submit one story. The story must be
submitted within the stated deadline.
6. The story must not insult, degrade, or defame any community or
individual.
7. Stories submitted to this competition may not be resubmitted to any
other competition.
8. The decision of the competition judges is final.
COMPETITION PRIZES
1. Prizes will be awarded to the top three stories (1st to 3rd place).
2. Certificates of recognition will be given to participants who place
between 1st and 15th, and their stories may be considered for publication in a
book to be launched at the 2026 event.
