Handover and Taking-Over Ceremony: Professor Sa’adiya Omar Bows Out, Professor Salisu Ahmad Yakasai Assumes Office as Director
The Centre for Hausa Studies,
Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has witnessed a smooth leadership
transition as Professor Sa’adiya Omar officially handed over to the new
Director, Professor Salisu Ahmad Yakasai, during a brief but remarkable
ceremony held at the Centre.
In her valedictory remarks,
Professor Sa’adiya Omar expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting her
the strength and wisdom to successfully discharge her leadership
responsibilities from 9th August 2021 to 14th September 2025. She congratulated
the new Director on his appointment and expressed firm confidence that
Professor Yakasai would advance the Centre to even greater heights.
Highlighting the Centre’s
achievements under her tenure, she noted the successful hosting of
international conferences and capacity-building workshops designed to promote
Hausa culture, literature, and language. She further emphasized notable
projects, including the translation of important scholarly works, particularly
those of the Jihad scholars. She concluded with prayers for Allah’s blessings
on the Centre’s continued progress.
In his inaugural address, the new
Director, Professor Salisu Ahmad Yakasai, expressed deep appreciation to Allah
for the honor of his appointment. He also extended gratitude to the
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Garba, MFR, for the confidence reposed in
him through a rigorous selection process.
Professor Yakasai pledged
inclusive leadership, assuring stakeholders that he would work collaboratively
to sustain and strengthen the Centre’s achievements.
As part of the ceremony, the new
Director was taken on a tour of the Centre’s offices, where he expressed
admiration for the ongoing activities and reaffirmed his commitment to building
upon the foundations already laid.
